Please Join the New Orleans Loving Festival in raising funds to support #DignityInProcess, a powerful platform uplifting local New Orleans artists, activists, and Wisdom Keepers!
#DignityInProcess is a multidisciplinary platform in response to the Black Lives Matter movement merging art activism, ancestral healing, and intersectional identity evolution within the Afro-Indigenous Diaspora. Bringing together movement, ritual, storytelling, and collective artmaking, #DignityInProcess draws upon the practices that have sourced the resilience of our ancestors for generations. Gathering Wisdom Councils of Mixed Race, African-Native American, and Creole elders—multigenerational conversations lay the foundation for embodied accountability to sustain a movement of Black Liberation. Afro-futures emerge through site-specific performances, subversive theatre direct actions, and community workshops celebrating the dignity of Black evolution. Follow the process at www.ChE-Art.Life. About the Artistic Director:
ChE (pronoun- they/ them/ their) is a Queer Afro-Indigenous artist/ activist working at the intersections of youth leadership development, race/ gender justice, and socially engaged artmaking. In 2013 ChE launched Breathe-In Liberation, an incubator for Queer and Trans activists-of-color to practice embodied leadership through the healing arts and a QTPOC social media platform, The MOVEMENT (cofounded with India Harville). Through this platform, ChE partnered with Destiny Arts Center and founded the Art Liberation Troupe, a QTPOC youth performance group utilizing dance, street theatre, and youth-led arts activism workshops as tools for social change. ChE is also the cofounder of Black Folks House, a year-long anti-gentrification project to support African-American leadership development and collective land ownership. A consultant in racial justice, LGBTQQIA2-S competency, and art/ movement integrated curriculum design, ChE has most recently worked with Destiny Arts Center, Healthy Initiatives for Youth, BAYC Our Space, Montclair Dance Athletics, and Alameda Head Start. As a director/ choreographer, ChE’s work is robust with gospel soul sounds and movement of the African Diaspora that leave feet stomping and hands clapping—fusing Contemporary Modern, Afro-house, Hip Hop, and Congolese dance with multi-generational storytelling and interactive installation. ChE has been an artist in residence with Spirit Garden Productions, Press Street Gallery, Dancing Grounds, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts—where they debuted Black Modern dance as an integrative form of Afro-diasporic healing.
